The Adult Classes Taught

 
  KICKBOXING (click on title for details)

This is based upon the Syllabus and techniques from the World Kickboxing Association (WKA). This course allows you to train at all the Kickboxing classes and students are assessed quarterly with all grades being recognize and certified by the WKA. We also utilize our established links with a number of other leading organizations such as the BFKKO to ensure the continued development of our instructors and students. In this class we concentrate on striking the pads and kick shields to develop fitness, effective techniques and distance training. The classes are normally held to background music which we use for timing as well as motivation. This develops the ability to fight in rounds but also allows students to push themselves as they know that at the end of the round there is a short interval. Within the class we also cover the Nunchaku and self defense techniques to ensure students can utilize their skills in a practical situation.

For those few students who are interested in competition we run separate squad sessions where you learn ringcraft and advanced fighting techniques to prepare you for WKA, Thai, WAKO or K1 style full contact competition.

KICKERCISE (Ladies only 16+ Click on title for more details)

This is a fitness class based on kickboxing. The class is completely non contact and is perfect for ladies looking for a new fitness class. The classes are great for burning calories and having fun doing it. You will be exercising using punches, kicks, knee and elbow strikes. (Instructors are male)

CHOW FAMILY SOUTHERN MANTIS KUNG FU (click on title for details)

The Chow Gar classes are taught on a more traditional basis with an emphasis on the development of the understanding of the Dim Mak or pressure point striking. Chow Gar is a highly effective all round martial art and has no sporting aspects. The style also covers many of the traditional Chinese weapons such as the spear, straight sword, pole, sai, trident, kwan do, Sword & Shield. In addition the twin Axes and steel whip which Tony Willis Sifu learnt in China are also covered. Chow Gar fighters were renowned for having forearms of "steel" and being able to take severe punishment to the body while protecting the vital organs. These skills are developed by extensive conditioning built up gradually by students and the development of internal strength by the practice of Qi Gong (Chi Kung or Hay Gung). Within the Chow Gar system many of the techniques are taught within preset routines and these are known as the forms of Chow Gar. The class is structured around the learning and understanding of these forms. The route to mastering Chow Gar is not an easy one but the rewards balance the effort put into developing these complex but effective techniques which have been proven to work over many generations in both armed and unarmed situations.

ESKRIMA (click on title for details)

The classes in Eskrima typically cover the weapons used in this Filipino martial art and this develops good defense and awareness of the dangers of weapons while developing fast reflexes and self defense techniques. The syllabus covers empty hand and ground work or Dumog as well as the more popular short stick and knife techniques. In todays society the ability to defend oneself against knife attacks is an essential skill and the routines that are taught throughout the Eskrima syllabus help develop this ability. As much of the training is with weapons the students react quickly and this develops fast techniques which help across many other martial arts.
